BOROUGH OF HANOVER CELEBRATES NATIONAL FARMERS MARKET WEEK, AUGUST 3–9, 2025
Hanover, PA – The Borough of Hanover proudly joins communities across the country in celebrating National Farmers Market Week, observed this year from August 3 through August 9, 2025. This national recognition honors the vital role farmers markets play in promoting healthy communities, supporting local agriculture, and strengthening regional economies.
Hanover’s own historic Hanover Market House, located at 210 East Chestnut Street, continues to serve as a vibrant centerpiece of the community, connecting residents with local farmers and vendors offering fresh produce, artisanal goods, and more.
“Farmers markets are more than just a place to shop—they're a hub of community activity, tradition, and economic vitality,” said Council President William W. Reichart, II. “We are proud to recognize the Hanover Market House as a living legacy that continues to serve Hanover just as it has since the early 1800s.”
The origins of the Hanover Market House date back to 1815, when the original structure stood prominently in the town square. Since then, it has served the community in various locations—including the lower level of the historic Hanover Opera House—before settling into its current home in 1933. Today, the Market House remains a cornerstone of the Borough, offering convenient access to healthy, locally produced foods while fostering meaningful connections between vendors and shoppers.
As part of its continued growth, the Hanover Market House is also cultivating the next generation of small business leaders. Young entrepreneurs are now being given the opportunity to participate at no charge in the Mid-Week Summer Market, held on Thursdays from 3 PM to 7 PM, where they can gain hands-on experience in marketing, sales, and community engagement.
In celebration of National Farmers Market Week, residents are encouraged to visit the Hanover Market House, which is open every Saturday from 6 AM to 1 PM, to meet local growers, support young entrepreneurs, and experience firsthand the value of a thriving local food system.
